The Azerbaijan Grand Prix that takes place on the Baku City Circuit is one of the most difficult and longest temporary street circuits in Formula 1 history. Since its maiden race in 2016 at the European Grand Prix no driver has won two races at this difficult circuit.
In a race where yellow flags, safety cars, and red flags are bound to happen, choosing a winner is never a sure thing. Drivers must endure the sharp turns and narrow track areas before hitting the throttle on some of the fastest straights in F1. Let’s take a look at which teams and drivers have been successful here so far.
MOST SUCCESFUL TEAMS IN AZERBAIJAN
|RED BULL||AUSTRIA||2017, 2021||2|
MOST SUCCESFUL DRIVERS IN AZERBAIJAN
|DANIEL RICCIARDO||AUSTRALIA||RED BULL||2017||1|
|SERGIO PEREZ||MEXICO||RED BULL||2021||1|
After looking at the stats of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix Mercedes has been the most successful with three wins with three different drivers. Can George Russell become the fourth for Mercedes in 2022 or will Lewis Hamilton become the first driver to have won twice in Baku?
Red Bull has also tasted success at the Circuit and will be looking to tie Mercedes for the most wins in Baku. Perhaps Max Verstappen will add his name to the list of winners for the first time too. It is also safe to assume that a new team and a new driver will claim the chequered flag because as history dictates anything can happen in Azerbaijan.
